Licensing, insurance & credentials
- Yes. Trail Mountain Electric holds a Utah Master Electrician / Class A Contractor license (UT-EC-12345), Idaho Registered Electrical Contractor license (ID-RCE-54221), Wyoming Electrical Contractor license (WY-EC-9817), and Nevada Class C-2 license (NV-EC-118734). We carry $5M general liability, full workers' compensation, and a $2M bond per project.
- Our crews are OSHA 30 certified, NFPA 70E arc-flash qualified, and NABCEP-certified for solar PV installation. We are a NECA member contractor, a Tesla Certified Powerwall installer, a Generac Premier Generator Dealer, and a ChargePoint Authorized Installer. Our medium-voltage technicians hold NETA Level 3 certification, and our designers include Utah-licensed Professional Engineers.
- Our experience modification rate (EMR) has been below 0.78 for the past four reporting years, placing us in the top quartile of electrical contractors nationally. We've recorded zero lost-time injuries on industrial work over the last 24 months, and every electrician completes monthly safety stand-downs and quarterly NFPA 70E refresher training.

Commercial electrical
- Commercial electrical contracts range from $100,000 tenant improvements to $40M ground-up office, hospitality, and mixed-use builds. Our sweet spot is $1.5M to $15M, but we routinely deliver larger negotiated and design-build packages.
- We self-perform 100% of feeder, branch circuit, lighting, and life-safety installation with W-2 electricians. We sub-engineer specialty systems like nurse call or distributed antenna systems (DAS) only when scope demands it, and we manage those subcontractors under our prime electrical contract.
3 questions
Industrial & mission-critical
- Yes. Our medium-voltage crew is NFPA 70E qualified through 35kV. Our lead testers hold NETA Level 3 certification or higher, and we maintain in-house Megger MIT525 high-voltage test equipment, hydraulic press tools, and PPE Cat 4 inventory.
- Yes. We staff a 24/7/365 dispatch line with under-60-minute average response time inside our primary Wasatch Front service zone. Mission-critical clients also receive scheduled preventive maintenance with NETA-aligned inspection intervals and annual load-bank testing.
- Yes. We've delivered Tier III colocation expansions including 2N redundant UPS distribution, paralleling generator switchgear, BICSI-aligned cabling, and BMS integration. Our Wasatch Data Vault Phase 2 project delivered 1,200 racks of capacity in Bluffdale, seven weeks ahead of schedule.
3 questions
Residential & custom homes
- Both. Our service division operates separately from our construction division, with dedicated trucks and same-day availability across the Wasatch Front and Back. About 30% of our residential volume is service work — panel upgrades, EV chargers, troubleshooting, and lighting.
- Most 200A residential service upgrades fall between $3,500 and $6,800 turnkey, depending on meter relocation, mast height, grounding requirements, and AHJ. We provide flat-rate quotes after a free in-home assessment.
- Yes. Trail Mountain Electric is a Tesla Certified Powerwall Installer. We handle the permit, the install, the gateway and meter integration, and the utility paperwork. Most single-Powerwall installs commission within 4–6 weeks of contract signing.
2 questions
Solar & battery storage
- Yes. Utah averages 4.5 to 5.2 peak sun hours per day, comparable to parts of Florida. Combined with the 30% federal Investment Tax Credit and Utah net metering, residential solar payback typically lands between 7 and 10 years, and commercial systems often see 5 to 7 year paybacks with MACRS depreciation.
- For Rocky Mountain Power residential interconnection, we typically see 4 to 8 weeks from final inspection to permission-to-operate (PTO). Commercial interconnection ranges 8 to 20 weeks depending on system size and whether a system impact study is required.
2 questions
EV charging
- Most residential Level 2 installs run $850 to $2,400 turnkey, depending on panel capacity, distance from the panel to the charger, and whether trenching is required for a detached garage. We provide a flat quote after a 15-minute virtual or on-site assessment.
- Often, yes. We routinely deploy battery-buffered DC fast charging and managed-charging firmware to keep utility service requests below the customer's existing capacity, avoiding a transformer upgrade. We also help apply for Rocky Mountain Power and Dominion Energy infrastructure incentives where available.
2 questions
Service & emergency
- Our average emergency response time inside the Wasatch Front and Back is 38 minutes, 24/7/365. Service-contract customers receive a guaranteed 60-minute response with a billing credit if we miss it.
- Yes. We offer Bronze (annual visit), Silver (semi-annual), and Gold (quarterly with 24/7 priority dispatch) tiers, all NETA-aligned. Healthcare and data-center clients typically choose Gold. Each visit includes infrared thermography, breaker exercising, ATS testing, and a digital report.
3 questions
Pricing & financing
- Yes. Residential service estimates and commercial preliminary estimates are free. For complex commercial and industrial projects requiring full engineering, we may propose a paid preconstruction engagement that converts to credit on award.
- Residential and light commercial service is flat-rate priced before the work begins. We never start work without your written or verbal approval of the price. Larger commercial and industrial work is bid lump-sum, GMP, or T&M with not-to-exceed caps depending on the contract structure.
- Yes. We partner with Service Finance Company and GoodLeap to offer 0% APR promotional financing on qualifying solar, generator, and electrical-upgrade installs, as well as longer-term low-APR options. We can present financing terms during the estimate.
